Purpose
The 5-Fold Purpose of WHC is:
Ministry, Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship and Evangelism
Ministry
When Jesus walked this earth, He did not only resign Himself to the synagogue in order to pray or teach but we also saw Him go outside beyond the 4 walls of the church where He ministered to the physical and spiritual needs of the people. This kind of ministering continued even after Jesus ascended to heaven. The followers of Jesus, once they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, ministered to the spiritual needs of the people through prayer, through healing and by bringing salvation through the teaching of the gospel to whoever believed and accepted what Jesus Christ did on the cross. The New Testament churches also modeled the way for meeting the needs of those less fortunate in their midst.
World Harvest Church believes in ministering to the spiritual and practical needs of members in the church and also to those who are not yet part of the kingdom of God. WHC has a prayer group that meets regularly to pray for its members and for its city. WHC also partners with other churches in order to pray for specific needs especially for the harvesting of souls in the city of Richmond and neighboring cities.
WHC also ministers to the practical needs of people within and outside the church through various benevolence vehicles. WHC also partners with LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry, a non-profit Christian organization focused on fighting hunger due to famine, drought, flood, war, or other natural disasters worldwide.
During communion, which we celebrate and partake of on a monthly basis, members of the body pray for one another, they edify one another through the sharing of testimonies on how God worked and continues to work in their lives. During communion, we partake of the bread and the juice to remember what Christ did by dying on the cross and by resurrecting from the dead. We remind ourselves that one day Jesus will come back for us the church, His bride. And lastly, we also remember who God is today, that He loves us and cares for us and that He wants all His children on this earth to be in a place where they can receive His expressions of divine favor, the source of which is His grace and from the fullness of His grace, we receive one blessing after another.
Worship
Although worship to some people may mean bringing an offering to God through songs, dance and musical instruments, worship at World Harvest Church goes beyond all these. We believe that anything that Christians do that brings God pleasure is worship. Jesus said in John 14:21, “Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.” At WHC, this is how we worship God, by being obedient to what is asked of us regardless of how easy or difficult the teaching may be.
With regards to worship through the arts, just like in anything we do at WHC, we strive to bring our very best to God through song, dance, drama and musical instruments. We love contemporary Christian music and we also use songs written by members of our music team who receive their inspiration from God.
Fellowship
World Harvest Church places a very strong emphasis on fellowship. Christianity is not about religion but it is all about relationships. Jesus could not have said it any better in Matthew 22:37-40 (NLT) when He said, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Christianity then is all about our relationship with God and relationships with other people.
At World Harvest Church, we encourage the gathering of believers throughout the week. On Sundays, before and after the morning main service and the evening youth service, the church lobby and the sanctuary are just packed with people who just love to hang out with one another.
We are on-purpose in following a regular schedule for the sharing of meals, big or small, whether in the form of summer barbeques, special-event lunches, coffee and dessert nights.
During the week, we have various Friends Groups that meet in homes and offices. Friends Groups are groups ranging anywhere from 3 to 12 people who get together to fellowship, to snack, to pray and to study God’s Word. Each Friends Group has a different purpose and target audience. We have groups for women, young adults, dance, prayer, quilting, seniors and more.
Discipleship
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commanded His disciples to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” A disciple is a follower of Jesus and a follower is someone who obeys the teachings of Christ.
At World Harvest Church, we not only believe in leading people to believe and accept the free gift of eternal life that can only come through Jesus Christ but just as importantly, we believe that Christians should continuously transform their thoughts and their behavior to come as close to looking like Jesus Christ. This can only be done by knowing God’s Word and by allowing the Holy Spirit to work in each person’s life, by being open and sensitive to His instruction. Knowing and obeying God’s Word is a very strong emphasis at WHC through teachings from the platform and through the Friends Groups gatherings and through the daily reading of the bible.
Evangelism
At World Harvest Church, we are on-purpose about letting others know the true reason God sent His most precious possession, His Son Jesus Christ to this world. Jesus took our place on the cross to receive punishment for our sins and by doing this; anyone can have the option of receiving eternal life in heaven. Eternal life with God in heaven is a gift and therefore needs to be received in order for it be useful. We believe that the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. And so it continues to be our mission to spread the gospel through our Outreach Sunday services, through our Friends Groups, through special events and holidays such as the Ladies Dessert Nights, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Sunday services and through personal evangelism.
